Jon Vongher, or JV as he is known to close associates near and wide, has been sailing for nearly 30 years. He is a USCG-certified 50 ton captain and has owned a variety of vessels over the last 25 years. In addition to his significant level of Great Lakes experience (and expertise!), he has also sailed the Pacific, Atlantic, and the Caribbean. He has been a commercial skipper on Tall Ships, large recreational yachts, and deliveries.
Jon was most recently engaged as the master captain and yacht manager for a Sea Ray L650 (sadly sold during the off-season by her owner). He is also the authorized captain for a national boating club and is available as a powerboat instructor and private charter captain for power and sailing vessels up to 50 tons.
Jon has a love of sailing that is clear to anyone he happens into who might ask him about a boat or body of water. He also has extensive experience with the mechanical aspects of power and sail vessels. He is cool under pressure, takes great pleasure in talking about boats and boating, and is known for his resourcefulness - the tale is still told to this day how he saved a day sailing trip on the San Francisco Bay with a shoelace (ask him about it).
